Former radio reporter runs for council

January 21, 2011

File this one under “Journalists who think they can do better.”

Derek Bouchard, a long-time radio news guy with CHBQ 1280 (about which I can find little information) in Powell River, is running for city council. Derek no longer works in radio, according to the bio on his “Derek Bouchard for City Council” Facebook page. Instead, he’s now working for a company that maintains Canada Post mailboxes.

In his short bio in the Comox Valley Echo, Derek writes:

I covered Comox council as a broadcast journalist for about the past ten years. I understand the process, what’s involved, and am ready to bring new ideas and a fresh perspective to the council table. With the near completion of the Regional Growth Strategy process, review of the Official Community Plan and another traffic study, I feel there’s a chance to continue the long term visioning for the town.
